Tiny Houses and Small Houses

The secret of happiness, you see, is not found in seeking more, but in developing the capacity to enjoy less.

Hanging Tent

August 6, 2014

Enjoy The Outdoors From Above

Hanging TentEvery once in awhile I come across something that is really interesting and unique. This is one of those things that I couldn’t resist showing you. It’s not tiny house related but it is all about relaxing and enjoying life.

A fellow tiny house enthusiast posted a blurb on his blog about a hanging tent that a young man in England has invented. It caught my eye as there are so many possibilities for it.

It’s a tree house! A tent with a pulley and a solid floor.

This is camping on a new level.

You can pull it up into a tree and have a room with a view. Spend the night safe from wildlife while enjoying a wonderful view of your surroundings. Let the slight swinging lull you to sleep. Wake up in the morning to the same overview with a different light. Just thinking about it is appealing and soothing.

Aerial PicnicAnother possibility is enjoying a lovely picnic with a view. Imagine choosing an area that overlooks beautiful territory, then enhancing your picnic with the ability to place yourself in a position where you are able to see the entire surrounding landscape.
That not only sounds wonderful for a picnic. It would be a wonderful place to spend a night or two as well.

Complete enjoyment for kids and adults.

How does it work?

With regards to the mechanics, apparently it the pulley system is based on 18th century ideas, the flooring in made of pine and is lightweight, the tent is made with very durable and weather-proof canvas, and the frame is strong steel rods. The entire contraption can be broken down and easily packed into most cars.

You may be wondering about weight capacity. They say it is capable of holding up to 1 ton. Wow!

It’s a simple idea with huge possibilities.

Belgium Little Home

A Little Home In Belgium

Little Home KitchenThis is a really cute tiny home on the main floor of a two story house in Belgium.

The design is really well done – especially the hidden built in storage solution.

The architects took a small space and created a unique and homey design that makes the most of the small area.

It has everything that you need in a bright and sunny place.

When looking for a small place you have the option of having an architect design a unique look that suits your wants and needs, you can buy one of the many blueprints for tiny and small homes, or you can buy one that has already been built.

As their popularity grows, so do your choices.

Small Cottage For Homeless

December 31, 2013

A Community Of Small Cottages For The Homeless

Small CottageThis is a wonderful idea and a great solution to help some homeless people. Apparently it’s an idea that has been many years in the making. They call it Community First Village.

The setting is near Austin, Texas.

Approximately three acres of land within a 27 acre property has been set aside and approved by the municipality for the purpose of building a small community for people that are chronically homeless.

The plan is to house at least 200 people in small cottages, mobile homes, and teepees. That provides them with options for housing that is affordable for them – a low monthly rental fee.

There is even space for a community garden which will certainly serve two purposes – the chance to learn to grow their own food to save money and to eat healthy.

This is a great idea for anyone that is trying to live off of a very small income and would like to improve their life but haven’t been given the proper chance to do it.
