Another Home Option For The Homeless
The idea has come from a Slovakian architecture firm. They decided the need was greater than the benefit to them and have made it an open source project. From what I understand, this means that any architect or designer is free to use the idea to design and build their very own version of the home. They can use the layout free of charge.
As you know, there are billboards everywhere. We see them all over cities, scattered along highways and even in rural areas. They are obviously a great form of advertising as they’ve been around for as far back as I can remember.
They are expensive to build and expensive to rent – especially if they are the type that uses electricity to enhance the advertising.
Someone came up with the brilliant idea of doubling the usage of these signs. Kind of a version of recycling.
The idea is to build a tiny home on to the backside of a billboard and have the rental property partially paid for by renting the outside space (the wall) of the building.
The cost of living in the home would be decreased substantially which would allow someone that typically wouldn’t be able to afford a home, to have a home to live in.
About the houses…
Most of them are triangular in shape but that doesn’t impair great design in the least. They have the same amenities of other small homes.
The idea is sound and innovative. They could be another great solution to a problem that many countries have.
The hard part is finding a suitable place to put up one of these tiny billboard houses.
P.S: If you are interested in seeing and learning more about tiny houses in general, there is a magazine on this subject that is published on a regular basis. You can choose to subscribe, buy one or more of the back issues, or buy one at a time. Click the link just above this for more information.
