Late last year we made the decision on which province (we are Canadian) that we want to live the rest of our lives – the winner is British Columbia. During the winter months, we made all the necessary changes to make it our province of residence.
Although we have already narrowed down our choices, this summer we will be traveling throughout parts of BC to find our forever location – where we would like to build our house and live most of the year.
Our plan is to buy some land with a view of the mountains but within a decent driving distance to a small city. I don’t think I’ll ever tire of the beauty of a mountain view.
In the meantime, we’ll continue looking for the perfect small house design for us – there are so many choices. I think it will end up being a combination of custom design and pre-planned design. We’ve found a few really lovely designs that would be excellent on their own or that would need just a few tweaks to make it our own.
We’ve already decided that it won’t be really tiny – we figure somewhere between 500 to 700 square feet should be good for us. We spent a few of the coldest winter months in a condo that is about 600 square feet and it was perfect.
We don’t have any plans to completely stop traveling anytime soon so we may keep our motor home (or more likely we’ll downsize to a fifth wheel or trailer) for shorter trips during the summer months – for a few more years. After all, we still have family and friends all over Canada and the USA that we like to visit.
As we expected, living in a small home (currently, it is our RV) is not an issue for us. In fact, we love the simplicity of our lives now. Our costs are minimal, our stress is minimal, and we are meeting so many wonderful people, making new friends, and seeing some beautiful sights.
Life Is Good!
