Location Is Important In Housing Designs
I was reading a story about another couple that chose to downsize considerably. They too went from a big expensive house to a very small one once they realized that they weren’t really living a good life due to their cost of living.
Like us, they got rid of 90% of their stuff and now live in a place that is tiny. They are extremely happy in their new life. They have the time and the money to do what they want. Their kids are happy as they no longer have to say that they have to work – either for the money to pay for the big life, or to work on the big house and property.
They were lucky to find the perfect property for them. That is where they built and are living.
A lot of what I read in their story is much the same as us with the exception that they found the perfect property for them. They took a few months and designed a house that is exactly what they want and need. Then took a few months and built it from scratch with their own hands. By doing it themselves, they saved a lot of money. In total in cost them a little over $33,000.00 including everything. They admit they could have saved even more by using salvaged materials, and not buying high-end pieces and appliances – but that is the way they chose to do it.
I have to add that this couple is very smart in their thinking. Instead of building on a foundation, they built their place on wheels even though they have no intention of moving it to a new location. They admit that they love their property and want to stay there. The reason they built the house on wheels is that they are trying out various locations on the property for a year or two before committing to a permanent location. They are experiencing the weather patterns, sunlight at various times of the day, how the property handles each change of season, and the view. That is very smart thinking… you would want to get it right before making it permanent.
As I’ve mentioned before, the housing designs just keep getting better and better.
